Toyo Gakujutsu Kenkyu (Vol. 63 No. 1)

The latest issue of the Toyo Gakujutsu Kenkyu (東洋学術研究) (Vol. 63 No. 1) contains messages from Chinese and Russian dignitaries in memory of the late IOP (Institute of Oriental Philosophy) founder Daisaku Ikeda, who passed away in November, 2023.

In addition, the issue’s special feature themed, ‘A Life Lived in a Time of Disconnection’, captures situations of disconnection that could potentially threaten one’s life and suggests ways in which people can live a life that is unique to each individual.

The section titled ‘The Silk Road of the Spirit in the 21st Century—Exploring the Path to Peace’ contains four edited lectures presented during the Institute’s public lecture series in the fall of 2023. The lectures discussed the importance of cultivating imaginative empathy for others, weaving unknown histories of cultural exchange, extracting collective wisdom to establish dignity, and transforming one’s mindset and heart.

The latest issue also introduces readers to the ideas of Avicenna (Ibn Sina), a preeminent philosopher of the Islamic world, and discusses the ‘Eastern Philosophy’ that he advocated. Other contents include a column, book review, information on new publications, and research notes. The main articles of the past issues of the Toyo Gakujutsu Kenkyu are available in our database.
